Abstract

Книга «Gaming the Iron Curtain» Ярослава Швелха – блестящий захватывающий экскурс в последнее социалистическое десятилетие Чехословакии сквозь призму любительского программирования и, в частности, компьютерных игр. Работа за-нимает отдельное место в game studies, заполняя, по словам автора, «черную дыру» в воображаемой географии геймеров, согласно которой за железным зана-весом «виднелись одни лишь коммунисты» (с. xxi). Считая компьютерные игры типичным продуктом послевоенной технологической и потребительской культур, «квинтэссенцией постиндустриального неолиберального культурного продукта» (с. xxi), исследователи game studies редко задумываются о том, какую роль люби-тельское программирование и создание компьютерных игр могли играть в «пери-ферийном» – с характерной для этой исследовательской ниши западноцентрич-ной точки зрения – позднесоциалистическом контексте.
