Abstract

Introduction to the first issue of Laboratorium. International attention to the Russian social sciences has focused on institutional conflicts and clampdowns; it is time to focus on the content of research. The task of the new journal is to reintegrate different subfields in the study of Russia with each other and into the international social science literature. Laboratorium will publish cross-national debates and guest-edited thematic issues that place Russia and other post-socialist countries into global perspective. Successful Russian scholarly journals tend to be interdisciplinary yet organized around a core discipline. The new journal will be centered on sociology, but invites contributions from anthropology, history, political science, social psychology, and economics. Russian and (different) English version.
